Product Information
EFFER-SODA 8, is an economical, highly stable, surface-modified sodium bicarbonate powder created for nutraceutical applications. Addressing the challenges formulators face when working with effervescent applications by removing trial and error. EFFER-SODA 8 allows for variety in packaging such as strip, blister, and sachet packaging without compromising the integrity of the formulation or format. It offers several formulation protection advantages and manufacturing ease.
Benefits:
- Highly compactable and free-flowing
- Increases resistance to humidity
- Prevents premature effervescence.
- Requires fewer binders with lower failure rates
A physical mixture of sodium carbonate, and sodium bicarbonate cannot achieve results similar to Effer-Soda. Since sodium carbonate is not present throughout the tablet, there are local areas of contact between sodium bicarbonate and acid. If there is the presence of a slight amount of water, the formulation will effervesce and produce additional water. This will eventually create stability issues; however, with Effer-Soda, you get total protection. Each particle is surface-modified to prevent an early reaction, making a difference in your product’s stability performance.
Typical Properties:
- A white free-flowing crystalline powder
- Mean Particle Size (D50): 200 μm
- Bulk Density: 1.01 g/mL
- Tapped Density: 1.22 g/mL
- Flow/Carr’s Index: Approx. 17
- Sodium Carbonate: 8-12%
- pH: 8.9 – 9.2
Formulation Protection Testing
10g samples placed in sachets; Conditions:
- 54% Sodium carbonate, Effer- Soda, or Sodium bicarbonate
- 46% Citric acid monohydrate
- Heated to 45-50 °C
2 Hours Later – Packaging checked for ballooning, you can see there is significant ballooning in the package formulated with sodium bicarbonate alone.
Recommended use in formulation
Application | % Effer-Soda 8 |
---|---|
Organoleptic enhancement in orodispersible systems | 1 – 4% of formulation |
Effervescent system within tablet or sachet | 15 – 25% of formulation |
pH buffering within formulation (no acid added) like floating drug delivery system | 5 – 25% of formulation |
Develop Differentiated Formulations:
Effer-Soda can provide effervescence within a chewable or fast disintegrating system to improve organoleptics and taste profile. Micro environmental pH modification improves the release of weakly acidic drugs.
