Lubripharm® Sodium Stearyl Fumarate (SSF) is an inert, tablet lubricant for use in traditional and orally disintegrating tablets, effervescent formulas, or in formulas where the active is incompatible with magnesium stearate. Lubripharm Sodium Stearyl Fumarate (SSF) is a less hydrophobic alternative to magnesium stearate, providing better stability.

Lubripharm® SSF
Product Information
Lubripharm® Sodium Stearyl Fumarate (SSF) is an inert, tablet lubricant for use in traditional and orally disintegrating tablets, effervescent formulas, or in formulas where the active is incompatible with magnesium stearate. Lubripharm Sodium Stearyl Fumarate (SSF) is a less hydrophobic alternative to magnesium stearate, providing better stability. Tablets made with Lubripharm SSF exhibit less sensitivity to variations in blending time and lubricant levels. Lubripharm SSF gives tablets with improved disintegration time, hardness, and ejection forces over magnesium stearate.
Lubripharm SSF does not share API incompatibilities with magnesium stearate such as:
- Are susceptible to oxidization
- Degradation in alkaline conditions
- Contain a primary amines
- Exhibit stability issues with magnesium stearate such as strongly acidic API’s (i.e.. ASA), iron salts, API’s containing ester groups (i.e.. Moexipril), and strongly basic API’s
Benefits at a Glance:
- Reduces attrition to tablet
- Avoids tablet capping
- Less Hydrophobic than magnesium stearate
- Less Sensitive to Overblending
- Improved disintegration time is essential to ODT systems
Disintegration Time Results
Tablets made using Lubripharm SSF are not highly sensitive to the levels of lubricant employed; the incorporation of 3.0% Lubripharm SSF as compared to 2.0% Lubripharm SSF did not negatively affect disintegration time, as shown in Figure 4. Usage levels of Lubripharm SSF are typically between 0.25-3.0% w/w concentrations.
